Eye Concern believes in the transformative power of a custom-fit ocular prosthesis to enhance the quality of life for individuals who need one. The impact of receiving a prosthetic eye goes beyond aesthetics. It’s about restoring confidence, dignity, and a sense of normalcy to someone’s life.
But the reality is that not everyone can afford this life-changing opportunity. Insurance coverage varies, and the cost can be a significant barrier for many. This is where your generosity can make a real difference.
Your donation, though non-tax deductible, holds the power to change lives. It can bring a ray of hope to those who are struggling to gather funds for a new eye. Whether you know someone personally who could benefit from a donation or you simply wish to contribute to a cause that makes a tangible impact, your support is invaluable.
When donating, you have the option to specify a recipient, ensuring your contribution directly aids someone whose situation you know.
We’ve witnessed firsthand the joy and gratitude in the eyes of both children and adults when receiving a new ocular prosthesis. The notes we receive from them and their families are heartwarming, to say the least.
A note from a child and another from their parent vividly describe the positive change they experienced with their new eye.
“ Dear Dr. Hadlock,
Long time no see, huh? I can’t believe how fast time has gone by, even for me. My parents keep telling me to stop growing and getting older, but of course I can’t help it. I’m already 12. It seems like yesterday I sat in front of your desk and you made my eye.
I don’t know if you know this, but when I was little I would call you John Headlock. I don’t know why, that is just what I thought your name was. Also when I was younger whenever my dad would put an eye drop in my eye he would say “that John Headlock sure knows what he’s doing.” So now my dad always says “headlock today babe?”, that means “did you put eye drops in today?”
My parents are thinking some time next year they might get a whole other eye made. They said as soon as they can fit in time, they will schedule an appointment.
Well hopefully I’ll see you soon.
Love always, K”
“Dear John,
I need to take a moment to let you know how great our daughter looks with her eye. Every day we talk about how happy we are about it and how amazing it is. We sincerely appreciate your hard work and ability. We find her looking at herself in the mirror and smiling. It has really helped her keep her self esteem. Between the surgery and the prosthesis she would look in the mirror and get sad, because she didn’t think she would ever look normal again.
Anyway, words cannot express how grateful we are for the way things have turned out. Thanks for the bottom of our hearts for all you have done.
Sincerely, T.”
“When I was a few weeks old, a tumor was found in my eye. The doctor was able to remove it and save my life, but I lost my eye. When I was young I always had an ill fitting eye. I was so self conscious. If I turned my head too quickly, my eye came out. If I sneezed, my eye could fall out. I always had yucky discharge coming out and I didn’t want anyone to ever look at me. I covered all the mirrors in my house with a cloth so I wouldn’t have to look at myself.
I’ll never forget the day when I was in 7th grade and I finally received an eye that fit me properly. It changed my whole world. The eye stayed in, it moved with my other eye and when I looked in the mirror I had two matching blue eyes. I started meeting people’s eyes and I felt like I could finally start experiencing life. “
